The history of GB3BB


The Repeater came about thanks to the efforts and dedication of Tony Blackmore, GW3FKO.

The Repeater Group was named as SPARC, South Powys Amateur Radio Club, by GW3FKO, and several other local amateurs interested in providing a repeater to give mobile radio coverage of the Brecon Beacons area.

The repeater started life on the Llanwern Radio Site, owned by ___________________

Cavity Filters   -   Constructed by GW0GIH whilst working at a school, using recovered military tank munitions cases (6)

Building the enclosure for GB3BB at the ????? Ty-Mawr Farm Radio Site began during 1983, the enclosure door was finally fitted early 1984. The repeater came on air from its site on the 7th July 1984.


The original site was Llanwern, Brecon

It ended up being located at  ---------- Site as of October 1988 was (Ysgwydd Hwch), Llaneglwys,

The repeater comprised the following equipment :

Cavity Filters - Constructed by GW0GIH and others, whilst working at a school, using recovered military tank munitions cases (6)
Cavity Enclosure - built by
2 Element Colinear - supplied by
Mast -  Owned by the Forestry Commission.
Logic - GB3US MK1
TX Power - 25 watts
